No Longer Behind Bars
I worked at Correctional Service Canada for 22 years. Early in my career when I was young a senior computer scientist who supervised three or four contractors left and took a job working for the company that employed the contractors. She was now their boss. She called me one day looking for the contractors who were not at their desks. She asked me if I knew where they were. I told her I did not. She asked me when I had last seen them and I told her that I was busy all morning and hadn’t noticed them. She then asked me to go and find them and to tell them that she needed to talk to them. I told her I would tell them if I saw them. They then said, “I told you to go find them and to have them call me and I expect you to do it.” I said, “Diane, I didn’t work for you when you were here and I don’t work for you now. If you don’t know where your employees are that’s your problem.” and hung up on her.
