Authorities announced Thursday that a man implicated in an on-stage assault on comedian Dave Chappelle has also been charged with the attempted murder of a roommate months earlier.
The LA County District Attorney’s Office said that Isaiah Lee, 23, has entered a not guilty plea in the December stabbing that happened during a brawl at a Los Angeles transitional living facility.
According to authorities, the attention surrounding the Chappelle incident aided in Lee’s identification and arrest in the earlier assault.
The county public defender’s office did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment from an attorney representing Lee.
Lee was arrested on May 3 at the Hollywood Bowl for reportedly storming the stage and attacking Chappelle during his stand-up show.
According to police, he was carrying a fake pistol with a huge blade that folded out of it like a pocket knife, which they shared a picture of.
Chappelle was unharmed and went on to complete the event, which was part of the “Netflix Is a Joke” comedy festival.
Lee has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of violence, assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of interference with a public event. Since the assault, he has been imprisoned.
