A Troubled Family
Mark and Donnie Wahlberg grew up in a working-class family in Dorchester, a neighborhood in Boston. The brothers were two of nine children, and they grew up in a household that was often plagued by violence and poverty. Their childhood was marked by adversity, driven by the effects of the divorce of their parents when Mark was 11. The divorce left their mother, Alma, to provide for and raise her nine children on her own in a small three-bedroom apartment.
