5 Martin Scorsese Easter Eggs

Ben - July 1, 2022

Martin Scorsese is a legendary director, producer, and screenwriter who’s made multiple icon films that stand the test of time. Within a lot of his work, there are some nice easter eggs that make references to other great films. Here are five easter eggs in his movies.

Scorsese Uses His Voice

He’s quite omnipresent in movie history because he lends his voice to multiple movies, such as “The Aviator”, “Bringing Out the Dead”, and “Raging Bull.”

“Goodfellas” Is a Modern “The Great Train Robbery”

We can’t forget the classic to-the-audience camera angle when it comes to gunslinger movies. When a character directly aims his gun at the audience, that’s a nod to the silent film “The Great Train Robbery.” In Goodfellas, Tommy Devito (played by Joe Pesci) has that same angle as he fires in the last minutes of the film.

Woody Allen?

Yes, Woody Allen. In “Bringing Out the Dead”, Scorsese clearly references Woody Allen’s “Manhattan” during the balcony scene when the song “Rhapsody In Blue” plays. This is a clear nod to the “Manhattan” opening scene with the same song.

Ahh! The Color of Money

Not only does Scorsese make his cameo playing pool in this sequel to “The Hustler.” He has countless cool appearances in other flicks.

Famous Line from “Freaks”

In “The Wolf of Wall Street”, the famous “one of us, one of us, gobble-gobble, gobble-gobble” line is referenced from “Freaks” in regards to a debate in the movie about the little people. This one-liner may even be more recognizable than “Freaks” as a whole.
