I’m From Smalltown Nebraska
If you have ever asked an American, “Where are you from in the states,” you will probably get a response along the lines of, “I’m from Smalltown, Nebraska.” More often than not, Americans assume that individuals are familiar with every town in every state, even though these places may be relatively unknown or unheard of to others. With so many states and places to remember, they can all easily blur together.
Therefore, when a tourist states, “I’m from Ramsey,” most people are unaware of whether it is located in the northern, southern, eastern, or western region, or if it is even within the same country. Sometimes specificity isn’t useful.
