Turning Right on Red (Except in NYC)
When it comes to the rules of the road, each country has its own set of distinct rules. One prominent example is the allowance for Americans to make a right turn at a red traffic light. As long as there isn’t a sign saying there is no right on red, and there are no oncoming cars, people can go through a red light to turn right.
This particular practice of allowing right turns on red lights often perplexes foreigners who are accustomed to waiting for a specific green arrow signal to proceed.
